Hi lovies,
Hope you have all been having a great weekend. Here to share some insight and a practice I have taken up that I love. We all know the hyper-ized concept of ‘Self-care Sundays’, but what if I told you there was more to it, a root cause for it? Would you be interested? If so, continue reading.
Self-care Sunday’s usually stems from going out and destroying your body from Friday to Saturday and then needing a day to recover and reset before the week starts, and it repeats. But what if I told you that there is another concept behind it? Self-care Sunday’s for the sake of resetting and setting the tone of the week.
For most of us, the week starts on Sunday, it’s something we’ve followed for a long time. So why not start off well, by implementing a solid self-care routine that will amplify your weekend and carry you through the week? It’s essentially about building habits that will set you up for a healthier lifestyle rather than trying to recover from past days. Not to shame weekend festivities, but that idea does ultimately undermine the true concept of what self-care is about. We are working towards a better mind and body, at the end of the day.
Sunday’s are a sabbath day for me, a day of rest, if you will. Something I’ve always done is rest on Sunday’s, run minor errands, and take time to center myself. Now living in LA in my late twenties, I’ve started to shift things, in my mindset and in my lifestyle.
I have started implementing “No caffeine Sunday’s” as part of my ritual to honor myself and my body, and allowing a break in-between days to not depend on caffeine. Our bodies naturally need a day of rest, to say the least, and what better day than Sunday? It’s something that when I do, I feel the effect throughout my day, in the best way possible. It allows me to slow down and be more present, while also allowing me to feel rooted. It’s been phenomenal.
As a new intention, I commend you to start your week this way and allow yourself to process how you feel. What things are in front of you that you’re missing by not allowing yourself this break, that otherwise you might have missed? And, how do you feel it impacts you?
As of lately, I haven’t been drinking, so weekends for me are no longer filled with lazy, sleep deprived, low energy days. In turn, not drinking caffeine has been a game changer. However, if you are someone that does drink, and you find yourself hydrating to recover, intaking caffeine on Sunday’s is the worst way to go. All it does it trick your mind into thinking that you are feeling better, but in reality, it’s exuding the energy that’s left, mentally and physically.
Try not having caffeine and Sunday’s and let me know how you feel. Do you feel it makes a difference? If so, how?
xx,
Keren Nicole
