Good morning,
I am here today to bring you some of my favorite yogurt bowl recipes that I have been experimenting with over the last couple of months. They’re simple and easy to make, yet filling and delicious. The plus side to all of it is that they’re healthy and great for cycle syncing.
Due to not planning for these recipes to be on the website, the quality of photo does not match the quality of flavor. I’ve been posting some of my latest creations on Instagram since I moved to my new apartment in LA, and my friends have been asking for the recipes. I figured what better way than to post it on my site? Ask and ye shall receive. So be ready to start seeing recipes more often on here.
Cooking has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been in the kitchen since I was about six. I always wanted to bake with my mom, and then when I turned 8 or 9, I wanted to bake without her. I thought I could do it all myself, so I remember looking up recipes and adding my own twist since a young age. My mom would get mad because I’d make such a mess, but there was nothing that could stop me from being in the kitchen. This is something that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately as I indulge more into cooking and experimenting in the kitchen.
Since cooking has always been such a big passion, I’ve started to embrace it more, and I want to be able to share this with you. I’m not an expert, but there is no better way to grow than to keep at it, meanwhile, sharing it with my audience.
The following recipes will be simple and easy, as stated, but the ones to come will include more steps. Now, enough with the story telling, here are my latest creations.
Blueberry Almond Butter Bowl
This bowl is a staple. It includes all of the basics in my book for a yogurt bowl, and it is great year round. I love it on a cold or rainy day, but it is also great in the summertime.
The base of all of the bowls in this post will be the same, Trader Joe’s (or any) nonfat greek yogurt. I use the plain one to be able to create my own flavors, and usually, when it is plain there is little to none added ingredients. Most of the time, those ingredients are not beneficial, and in turn, end up making it unhealthy.
Recipe-
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt (Add as much as desired. It does not have to be an exact portion size. Portion will depend on if I am eating it as breakfast or a snack.)
- Almond Butter (Add as desired. If you’re trying to stay in a certain amount of fats per meal, don’t add more than 1 tablespoon. A little goes a long way.)
- Cinnamon (Lots of cinnamon! Cinnamon is what will bridge the flavors together.)
- Blueberries
- Honey (I add 1/2 of a tablespoon. I don’t like my bowls too sweet, just sweet enough to satisfy my sugar craving, because I like the tartness of the yogurt, but totally up to you! It’s your bowl.)
- Walnuts (I warm mine.)
A little trick for the bowls: I warm the walnuts before adding them in. It creates a warm taste when mixed with the ingredients and it will bring the taste and experience full circle.
Pomegranate Walnut Bowl
I came up with this bowl one morning when it was cold out. I was craving something sweet and warming. I started throwing things together and before I knew it, I had this bowl. It’s one of my favorites and the one most people have asked about.
The concept of the pomegranates being tart makes it easier to add more to it, because it makes you want to balance the flavors. I love tart bowls with a hint of sweetness, but when it’s ingredients have two tart factors, you have to add more to it. I added more honey and my secret ingredient is nutmeg. It gives it that fall taste, and surprises you when you try it. Cinnamon would have been too expected, and the nutmeg gives it the perfect balance. This one feels like home and tastes like fall.
Recipe-
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt
- Pomegranates and Their Juice (Squeeze the seeds to get a good amount of the juice, this way you taste the pomegranates in the entire bowl. Then add seeds in.)
- Nutmeg (Desired amount. Remember, nutmeg is stronger than cinnamon. A little goes a long way.)
- Warmed Walnuts (Warm them and crumble over the bowl.)
- Honey (I add 1 tablespoon since it will require more sweetness, but totally up to you.)
It’s essential to warm the walnuts. If you don’t warm them, this recipe won’t taste how it’s supposed to. This bowl is perfect for the fall and spring. It will bring you that level of comfort food that you will crave on colder, rainy days.
I first came up with this post run, on a cold and rainy day, and it was exactly what my body was feeling for. It’s a great bowl for cycle syncing as well.
Your Trader Bowl
An unoriginal bowl to satisfy any craving. Upside: it’s full of protein and healthy fats. It’s great to fill you, and nourish you. Although it’s simple, it’s the ideal bowl if you’re on the run, with a busy day ahead.
I love making this bowl after a run or as a snack during the day. Sometimes I need a boost of protein and this satisfies it. It’s my “cheat” bowl because I often crave fats and sweets, and this does it for me, while keeping me from turning to junk food.
Recipe-
- Non-fat Greek Yogurt
- Cinnamon (Lots of it!)
- Hemp Seeds (I add a lot and I don’t gauge. It depends how many you want. I’d say I add around 2-3 tablespoons.)
- Honey (This is a sweeter bowl, I add about 2 tablespoons of honey.)
- Almond Butter (A bowl focused on fats. I add 1 heaping tablespoon of ab.)
Chocolate Oat Bowl
This one is going to throw you for a loop, and just wait for it. I recently started creating content for brands and this particular brand, Paleo Valley reached out to me and sent me some of their products. One of them being chocolate bone broth.
I was skeptical to try it. I love chocolate and bone broth, but together? When it first came in I tried it as a hot chocolate, and needless to say, it was amazing. I couldn’t believe it. One night, I was hungry and I was craving a warm, healthy snack before bed. I had the idea of overnight oats in mind with almond butter, but granted, it was night time and I had not prepared the oats beforehand.
I started getting creative and used the chocolate bone broth protein to make this. Turns out that this recipe is amazing and FILLING. I was so full afterwards, I decided not to make this before bed anymore. But on the upside, I now have this fantastic recipe. It’s more of an oats bowl than it is a yogurt bowl, but it has yogurt, so it passes.
You can easily replace the chocolate bone broth with cacao powder for the chocolate flavor, but don’t use cocoa, please. It is ultra-processed and it’s not as healthy for you. Also, keep an eye out for cacao. I’d recommend an organic or natural one, they tend to be high in lead. Another great replacement is dark chocolate. You can melt it into the boiling milk.
Recipe-
- Boil 1/2 cup of milk and add organic oats (The quantity of oats depends on your preferred portion. For the oats, I prefer old fashion oats, but any will do, as long as they’re not instant oats.)
- Add 1 scoop of the chocolate bone broth (Or replacement chocolate.)
- Mix until most of the milk has evaporated, but don’t let them dry up.
- Add to a bowl and wait for them to chill 5 minutes.
- Add 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter
- Add 1 Tablespoon of Hemp Seeds
- Add Walnuts (Crumble a small portion over your bowl.)
- Add 2 Tablespoons of Non-fat Greek Yogurt
- Let it chill and enjoy
Please make sure to use organic oats. The price difference isn’t much, but the effects are. Oats that are not organic are sprayed with chemicals, which in turn, cause bloating and many other internal issues. Our guts are first handedly affected by this, so do yourself a favor and only use organic oats. I buy mine at Trader Joe’s and the price difference is slim.
Banana Yogurt Bowl
I woke up feeling like I wanted to be creative, especially with my meals. Today I was supposed to run 20 miles for my training, but it was pouring, so I postponed it. I went back to sleep and woke up feeling creative and motivated. After looking online for inspiration, I decided I wanted to have a small breakfast, a yogurt bowl with fruits, but I wanted to try something different.
I personally love the flavor of banana, and for some reason I was craving something fresh with bananas. I got up and made my own banana yogurt. It’s not as creative as it sounds, I didn’t do much, other than blend bananas and greek yogurt, but it was exactly what my body was craving.
The banana yogurt was just as creative as I wanted to get with my bowl, because what I was truly craving was something light and sweet. I tried a tiny bit of roommate’s granola, but it was way too sweet for my taste. I wanted only the sweetness from the fruit. Hence, why I didn’t add honey.
Recipe-
- Blend 3-4 heaping table spoons of Non-fat greek yogurt with half of a banana (Blend it until it’s uniform, but not too liquidy. A frozen banana would have been better but I did not prepare.)
- Pour the yogurt into a bowl and slice the other half of the banana, add it on top.
- Add hemp seeds (A lot of hemp seeds OR substitute and add 1/2 hemp seeds 1/2 granola.)
- Add blueberries
- Add peanut butter (However much you want.)
- Enjoy!
I loved this bowl, in fact, if I didn’t have lunch prepared, I’d be craving for another. I am going to freeze some bananas to remake it this week. It is amazing and light, yet so filling. This specific yogurt from Trader Joe’s includes 17g of protein in one serving.
For granola, I’ve found some great recipes online. I usually don’t buy them in store anymore because they’re full of sugar and unnecessary ingredients. Once I make it I will do my best to post it on the site asap. In the meantime, I recommend searching online for recipes. It’s easy to make, you can just pop them in the oven while you get ready, and once you’re done, it will be ready so you can just toss it into your yogurt or save it for later. They do last quite some time if stored properly.
You can add any toppings to these recipes, feel free to make it your own and experiment. The only way you’ll master it is by trying different recipes. I hope you love them. Feel free to try them and leave comments down below, or send me a message on IG or Twitter! I’d love to hear your feedback. Here’s to more bowls year round!
As always, thank you for tuning in and being patient. Life has been so busy, but I will be here more often updating you and posting more recipes. To be updated subscribe to my mailing list. I only send emails on new posts.
XX,
Keren Nicole
