The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
Hello again,
Thank you for being here! It’s been some time since I was active on the site. So much has changed in the span of a year, that of which I can’t wait to share with everyone. Today I want to talk about a topic near and dear to my heart and prayers to God in the last year, and that is: the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
It was on my heart to share about this today. In the Bible, in the book of Galatians, it speaks about the fruits of the Spirit. The Spirit refers to the Holy Spirit. It states that when you walk by the Spirit, you possess the fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
These are so important to reflect on because it is so easy to walk as we please, giving in to our flesh, selfish desires or conceits, but when you walk by the Spirit, possessing the fruit, it will be evident. The evidence will be all around you, and you will start to crucify your flesh. It’s not easy to not do the things you want or desire in the moment, but it’s worth it.
This morning, right before I sat down to write this post, I got the strongest urge to order a coffee down the street and pick it up. Silly, you might think, but see, the thing is that I’m 7.5 months pregnant, and I have not been intaking caffeine during the pregnancy. I felt the Lord tell me to abstain, and when God tells us to not do something, it’s for our best. I felt the strongest urge to just do it, and started getting ready to go. I was trying to talk myself in and out of it, making justifications. But see, when we know we should not be doing something, we tend to justify why it would be okay. If you find yourself in that stage, end it there, and justify no longer. When you’re meant to be doing something it will come with peace.
I immediately talked to God, looked in the mirror at the precious, beautiful, baby growing inside my belly, and put her first. I love coffee, and I haven’t had it in almost 8 months, but I love God, myself, and my baby more. Obedience comes at a price, and sometimes it might be something small like a coffee, or it might come with a higher price. At the end of the day, what are you willing to sacrifice for your obedience? Are you willing to disobey God or are you willing to give up certain things? That’s what it comes down to; are you willing to trade what you want most for what you want now?
If the answer is no, you’re on the right path. Surrender and meditate on His goodness and Word. In Galatians 5:24-25 it says “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” The fruits of the Spirit help us walk according to what God has for us, His goodness, and His plan. The Holy Spirit guides us, and helps us get to that plan or path. We must crucify those desires for greater ones. The fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) are evidence that we possess the Holy Spirit, and that we are walking according to His good.
Let’s meditate on this as we walk towards what Heaven has for us. While we walk, one step at a time, trusting in God, He will make our paths clear. If you didn’t know about the fruits of the Spirit before, or have questions, feel free to message me on Instagram @FindingKeren. I’d love to talk about it more, and offer what I know. Remember that the Word says, “His burden is light and His yoke is easy” (Matt.11:30). God is always there when we need Him. Lean on Him, rest in Him, and know that He has you. Your struggles, no matter how big or small are never too big for him.
Sending you guys a big hug! And I want to thank you for being here. Just know that it means a lot.
Love,
Keren Nicole
